Rochdale councillor and fundraiser Faisal Rana  supporting the NHS by donating his bike to local charity Positive Cycles which is refurbishing donated bikes for key NHS workers.

Councillor Rana said: “I bought a second-hand bike for my daily exercise routine during the Coronavirus lockdown. But then I heard about this amazing scheme which is collecting cycles to renovate and hand over to frontline hospital staff.

“The cycles enable nurses and doctors to get to work easier and also avoid having to use public transport where there is a risk of picking up the virus.”

Positive Cycles is part of Positive Steps, a community-based charity covering Rochdale, Oldham and Bury. It has teamed up with Transport for Greater Manchester to provide refurbished bikes for key NHS workers during the current crisis.

Martin Sutton of The charity said: “Normally we take old and unused bikes and our volunteers and young people clean and fix them. We donate the newly refurbished bikes to jobseekers and local families.

During this coronavirus outbreak we are donating bikes free of charge to the NHS to help frontline staff get to and from work safely. We have already donated over 20 bikes to local hospitals.
